FREE COMMUNITY PAPER SHRED EVENT AT STORABLES

Storables, the locally owned storage and organizational home goods retailer, is holding a free community shred event at their two Portland store locations, co-sponsored by Organizers Northwest. The document-shredding event will feature EFI Secured Shredding mobile units both at the Tigard Store parking lot, 9140 SW Hall Blvd, and at the downtown Pearl store location on the corner of 13th & Couch. The public can shred for free Saturday March 6th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a suggested donation of one or two school supplies to support local schools.

Many people have boxes of important documents and papers they no longer need that take up space, create clutter and increase the risk of identify theft. "At least year's shred event it was amazing to watch how excited people became as their papers turned into shred. It feels good to help our customers reduce the clutter in their lives and to provide solutions that help them become more organized. It's also tax season so the timing is perfect." says Ann Salamon, Store Manager at the Tigard Storables location.

Individuals from throughout the Portland area may bring up to 2 banker boxes full of paper to the EFI Secured Shredding unit. People can actually watch their documents on camera as they become shred. After EFI shreds the paper, it is baled and sent to paper mills and turned into pulp.

General guidelines for what to shred:

• reapproved credit offers and applications
• Expired Debit & Credit Cards
• Expired Passport & IDs
• Anything with Social Security, Account, or ID numbers

After 1 year:

• Monthly Credit Card , Bank & Brokerage Statements
• Monthly Utility & Phone Bills
• Pay Stubs (after reconciled against W-2)

After 7 years:

• 1099s & W-2s
• Canceled checks, receipts & logs supporting tax deductions
• Charitable contribution documentation
• Year-end Brokerage statements & IRA non-deductible contributions
• Year-end Credit Card statements

Storables is locally owned and offers thousands of organizing solutions. Store hours for the Tigard store are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Store hours for the Pearl store are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
